I'm ashamed to say when I was last in Vegas, we stayed at the glamorous Harrahs.
http://www.harrahs.com/our_casinos/las/. Granted most of our fellow hoteliers were in flower print moo-moos and shorts with black socks, but it wasn’t that bad, besides the carpet which looked like a Mardi Gras Parade had gotten sea-sick and vomited all over the casino.
But location, location, location. Its right in the middle of everything and cheap. (I see on the website about 40 bucks for some nights.) And it was nice enough, I mean the room was fine and clean and it’s not so huge a property that getting to the room required a bottle of water and a bagged lunch.
We just pretended we were staying at the Bellagio, gambled at the Venetian, shopped at Ceasars and dined at Paris. For the amount time we spent in the hotel it was worth it and the money we saved allowed us to enjoy the other properties. And I did have some luck in their casino.
