Of all the thing not allowed as a kid, it is odd that you weren't allowed to have red wine vinagrette.
I know of pre-cooked beets but they’re more expensive compared to buying organic beets that I can roast and store on my own. One less unit of plastic & shrink wrap for me to buy as Safeway has compostable bags.
I prefer just mashing the anchovy instead of using paste.
I am happy with romaine lettuce for salad. Arugula is a great salad component of course. I like cooked spinach and that’s easier to buy frozen.
most of my salads are without beets. I still want beets in my salad.
During childhood, we didn’t have red wine vinegar and I never considered asking for it since we rarely ate salad and raw vegetables at home. The vegetables were always cooked.
