The laptop may not be covered by Apple Care (which is Apple's extended warranty program) if you didn't buy that option, but I would think it would be covered by the standard 1-year hardware warranty that comes with every Apple product. That is, unless you bought something other than a new laptop and it came with a non-standard warranty.
