One of the nicest new features on the MD-88 is the overhead light that is both brighter and is movable. Also, the new row numbers make it easier for folks finding their rows.

Last week, I also happened to be on a 738 with the extra legroom in back. It appeared that every row back of the emergency exit row had more room, maybe a couple of inches. No more "bowling alley" effect from the removal of seats. I haven't sat that far back in a 738 in a long time....just ended up there this time due to Jeanne.
