600 CAD per night? I am not seeing rates remotely close to this unless it was the case back in the summer when you stayed but even then I am assuming occupancy was low.

You should read the Amex FHR / Marriott threads which discuss when such bookings qualify for Marriott points and when they don't. Such issue is not specific to JW Marriott Vancouver - it is chain-wide; many people are not earning points because it's a 3rd party booking so you cannot expect it will be linked to your account. But sometimes it can work especially if it's pay at the hotel rather than pre-paid.
