If my understanding is correct, these are self-inflicted wounds because they intentionally kept a portion of the hotel closed. They can simply re-open it and ramp up staff count if occupancy is higher than expected. Westin did a similar thing: they were selling 360/400 rooms and keeping 40 out of inventory. During weekends they sold all 360 rooms.

The Gold Lounge would be one way that Fairmont offers something that FS does not. I am not too inclined to return to Fairmont in the near future but if I had to, I would try a Gold room; at least I would feel I am getting something which is not available at Westin or FS.
