A letter to employees is currently circulating in the press with a dire prospect for the winter 20/21: (mid December till end February)
- DLH will go down to 80 operating aircraft, the lowest since the mid 1970s: flight ops will carry out about 25% of the winter schedule with minimum crew and using the most modern and economical aircraft whereever possible to save on fuel. This means another 4 A359 will be moved from MUC to FRA.
- Swiss will operate the regional program with A220 and A320neo only, the A320ceo will be parked. OS will continue to ground the B772 and try to operate regionally with only E19x aircraft, and ground nearly all A320. EW will operate less than 30 aircraft.
- In total this means 125 aircraft are decommissioned. The decommissioned aircraft will be used as a source of spares and any MRO activities will be halted, like the D check for the B744.
- Admin areas go back to 'short work' unless required for operations and legally mandated tasks.
- Office space will be reduced to 30%, the main HQ, LAC will be closed except for the above admin staff. The Squaire opposite FRA, which was used by marketing staff, will be vacated and the lease cancelled. EW will also give up their DUS offices.
Tighten your seatbelts, this will be a rough ride...
