There is a currently COVID waiver for all tickets and AA is eliminating most change fees longer term. Rollover policies are irrelevant when tickets can be exchanged for no penalty and psgrs can retain residual value for future use. The OP can rebook the exact same itinerary and exchange the higher priced ticket for a lower priced ticket, retaining any residual value for future use.
