It worked properly for me on a test just now. If you'd like to include your cities and dates, we can try to reproduce the issue.
That said, my guess is that you might have a mixed-cabin award on the outbound. I've seen reports of problems in the past where a single Y segment on the outbound can invalidate the J ExPerk pricing. You may be able to get it priced manually by calling.
