At the hotel now. In spite of the turn off email, they did give me a dynamite upgrade on a certificate awards day to a premium deluxe king with probably the best view in the hotel (It’s a special anniversary week for us).
The hotel is in a U-shape; The tips of the U are closest to the beach; In fact probably just 100 feet back of the boardwalk. For this reason I would not want a first floor ocean front room – no privacy. However the second floor ocean front rooms are fun you see the boardwalk, but they can’t see into your room. There are only eight of these rooms on each floor, and only two floors, so not many.
The rooms on the sides of the U that are closer to the beach probably have very nice angled views from the balcony.
While it’s disappointing they have suspended elite breakfast offerings, I was prepared and have things in the in-room refrigerator.
The hotel has a fantastic location, on the beach next to the center of downtown. Hotel is in great shape and what seemed like high rates to me now seem in line with what they offer and the location.
The tourist in Pismo Beach are not as socially distanced as they were in Santa Barbara. However protocols within the hotel are good. My only suggested improvement is they could use more hand sanitizing stations throughout the hotel (I saw some at the Santa Ynez Marriott, one in front of each elevator, which seemed like excellent placement).
The pool is by reservation only which turns out to be good for us because we are lap swimmers and the pool is would be too small and crowded if it wasn’t restricted. As it is, swimming laps even when empty is tough enough as it may be six strokes in one direction and four in the other. They have divided the pool and half, the other half is smaller beef, be sure to ask for the big half when you make the reservation. Hot tub is closed by county order.
Restaurant is open, so far the one room service side we got was good (roasted artichoke). In room coffee is Lavazza, and the bathrobes are very nice (but must be requested from the front desk along with bottled waters and extra coffee.
Room safe is big enough for a laptop.
The premium deluxe room is a very nice size, we travel with a lot of bags and although the closet wardrobe was small, no problem storing the bags around the room without them being in the way. Bathroom has two sinks, shower but no tub, and the loo has its own door within the bathroom.
Valet parking is $33 night, high but probabl does justified being a block from the dead center of the tourist area. Mid week it was easy to find street parking a block and a half from the hotel, and I don’t have to move the car for two or three days so easy to save money if you arrive mid week.
I’m here for another day if you have any questions, I’ll try to answer.
