You can do some planning, but understand that committing to anything more than 30 days out is a real risk. If you can't travel, but the flight does operate, all you may get is a credit (if that) and not a refund. Depending on other aspects of this trip, this can all add up to a lot of money on carriers and in places which you may not want to travel to 6 months later.
I would spend some time planning your trip out and considering what it all costs, but not committing to anything which is not fully refundable (other than perhaps smallish administrative fees) until much later.
