Last year I checked in on the app and got a digital key from an Embassy Suites, they had my bottles of water and the physical keys I requested in the room when I got there. I did not have to visit the desk at all.
if digital key is available at a particular property, after you complete check in using the Hilton ap it will usually ask you whether you want digital key.
