Hidden taxes?
Hi all,
I'm making my very first long-haul Avios booking (given the sale and all...!) which has pretty epic timing because I also have my first Amex 241 voucher that I acquired a few months ago.
I made this booking first:
JER -> LHR -> PEK in First Class
-----------------
£56.00 Passenger Service Charge
£207.00 Carrier Imposed Charge
£263.00 Total taxes (for each passenger)
I then called up to add the following booking as a return leg:
KIX -> LHR in Business Class
When booking this one way flight, both Matrix and BA.com show the same taxes within £0.10, as follows:
£7.30 Japan International Tourist Tax (TK)
£2.30 Japan Passenger Security Service Charge (OI)
£20.30 Japan Passenger Service Facilities Charge International (SW)
------
£29.90 total
However when I called BA to add this return leg to my existing flight, the guy stated the taxes have increased to £467.50 per person (£204.50 extra per person to pay)
He seemed nice enough but could not explain why the taxes jumped, and agreed that he could replicate the fact of a one way flight from KIX to LHR attracting just £30 in taxes.
Does anyone know why this is? Should I just try calling again?
