A month or so ago, during an award sale (travel by mid-March), I redeemed Iberia miles for biz class tickets from the USA to Israel with a stopover in MAD. I received an email in Spanish today that says the following(translated):

"At Iberia we are aware that due to the current situation your travel plans may change. That is why we have decided to make the conditions of your flight more flexible.For your convenience we offer you the possibility of obtaining a refund for your reservation through a voucher for the amount of your tickets, which you can use whenever you want to fly to any of our destinations. If you prefer only to change the dates of your flights to fly until June 30, 2021, click here."

Even aside from Covid, I'd prefer to travel in May. So I called Iberia to see if I could make a free change. The agent said that since my flights were not (yet) cancelled, I could not make a free change. I then read him the email and he said that perhaps "the new rules" weren''t yet loaded in the system, and that I should call back later today.

Any idea what's going on, and whether I could in fact change my award tickets the way I'd like to?
