Kind of... We did this to get a great deal on air last year. We booked air and rental car and then reduced the car to the bare minimum DL vacations would allow. Still cost us over $500 less than the airfare alone. We just never picked up the car.

I did this several years ago with "One night" in a hotel at the airport on departure but I think they may now require a minimum night stay.
