(6. MCGC liquidation- The cashier should not enter the amount first. Technically they just can't hit enter after entering the amount. Let the CSR know you need to swipe first and switch the payment type to debit, then swipe and hit "Cancel" or "Change Payment" to select "Debit" on the screen, enter the pin and have them enter the amount.)

When dealing with MCGCs at WM, you need to have an amiable CSR to do the transaction, which isn't difficult.(the transaction, that is )

The CSR usually enters the amount of the transaction and the fee. Assuming that an $800 MO is being purchased, the total that they enter is $800.88. Some CSRs like to take the fee out first, some don't. It is usually easier if you ask them to take that charge out last (but in truth, not necessary).

You slide your first card before they enter the $200 on their side (but after they have entered the total amount of the MO) and hit change payment. Sometimes the button doesn't respond to your pushing it (it is an electronic and not physical button and may not respond to your finger). Once the change payment is actually activated, your CSR can enter the amount. You will know that you have successfully pushed the "change payment" button if your pad then shows multiple ways of paying (it's a 2x4 array of "buttons" which appears). The "debit" button is green, the others are not (some are red or yellow). Press the debit button and finish the transaction as usual with the pin. Move onto the next card.

It is a few more steps than VGCs, but once you have the procedure down, is no more complicated than anything else we do here.

You do need a compliant CSR who is willing to wait to enter the amount of the GC being used until you have prepped the machine, so to speak.

Of course you can use alternative locations, but I don't have that luxury since none of my supermarkets allow debit cards when buying MOs

(If someone thinks this is helpful, they can enter it into the Wiki)
