You can forget about compensation and reimbursement of the new ticket you purchased (because you bought the new ticket on your own and never inquired with BT to rebook you). It will be a total waste of time to pursue these claims because in Covid-19 times no airline will entertain such claims.

Your refund has been approved and will most appear in your account soon. Move on (and next time check your bookings before going to the airport)
