Interesting that this works. Giving a 10 digit US phone number usually gets it converted to +86 1234567890 somehow

Maybe I'm buying really strange things on the desktop Internet but I've run into scenarios where neither AliPay or Wechat Pay are supported and the only option is a UnionPay card with SMS verification first.
