Sheraton Istanbul City Center, Turkey [Master Thread]

Introduction I had a quick stay at Sheraton Istanbul City Center to try this property for the first time. Considering the price tag below 100 EUR I was quite happy with the stay which especially stood out with great service that put some higher luxury options to shame. Room After gifting Marriott Platinum status to my wife using my own Ambassador account as per the current promo, I booked the cheapest room type with her Platinum account so understandably the upgrade might have been less for a Platinum than for an Ambassador. We were upgraded to a deluxe room which is 38 sqm and one step below the junior suite which is 47 sqm. The hotel opened in 2016 so the hardware is still quite new and I found the room to be typical of newer Sheraton properties in various parts of the world with everything of decent quality and functional. One oddity was that there was a large window with blinds in the shower which is useful for natural light, but from the bed it was looking straight at the toilet through the shower so it requires to draw blinds down if travelling as a couple. Other than this our room being in the corner of the building and at the end of the hallway, it was very quiet and no foot traffic in the corridor, but the downside was that our room lacked windows due to the design in the corner so it was a bit dark particularly in the living area. Dining Breakfast was offered 7-11am in the main restaurant. In normal conditions we can choose points as the welcome amenity and be limited to breakfast in the lounge only, or choose breakfast in the restaurant and forego the welcome points. However because of covid, breakfast was temporarily not offered in the lounge so we could have both breakfast in the restaurant and welcome points. I thought the breakfast choices were fine and in line with the Sheraton brand but nothing fantastic. Happy hour in the lounge was 6-8pm with fruits & veggies; the hot dishes were mostly fried stuff with everything being served by staff to avoid guests touching any food. Drinks were available for three hours - until 9pm. Overall the design of the lounge was attractive and made it a good place to relax during the evening. Service Service was clearly the strength of this hotel. They reached out to me ahead of time (most non-luxury hotels don’t bother) and they asked for our flight arrival details. I informed them that we would be transferring from Park Hyatt Istanbul rather than come from the airport but they offered to send their shuttle bus to pick us up. I appreciated the gesture however I mentioned that we had to drop off a couple of suitcases in storage at Fairmont Istanbul but nonetheless they said no problem, they were willing to make the detour! The driver arrived exactly on time at Park Hyatt to pick us up. Once we arrived at Sheraton, the excellent service continued, for example they had our specific pillow order ready in our room and someone called our room to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. This is the kind of service I would expect from a Luxury Collection hotel so for a Sheraton to take care of guests this way is definitely a plus, especially in the current covid circumstances where many hotels fail miserably. Sheraton stands out positively and because they share management with the new JW Marriott Istanbul I will for sure try it at some point and I will be confident that I will be treated well. Wifi Wifi worked well and was faster than most other hotels we have stayed in Istanbul with speeds of about 30 Mbps. Overall Overall for the price this hotel is excellent and I can highly recommend it. The only negative might be the immediate location around the hotel which is not the most attractive but with a 15-minute walk we could be at Taksim Square or alternatively the hotel shuttle could take us there. Because of superior service, good elite recognition, the room, and the club lounge, my main takeaway was that Sheraton is a solid choice.
