Does the rebooked flight need to include a United segment? Was planning to book YYC-YYZ round trip, but it doesn't seem like I can online. However, if I book YYC-YYZ // Any UA Route OW, it allows me to make the purchase... If I book this and then drop the last segment, would I just get a ETC for it?

The original tickets were booked back in December 2019.

Thanks.
For tickets booked prior to 3 March 2020, you will received an ETC for the residual. if any, when rebooking the FFC.

If your cancellation was involuntary (done by UA) then you are eligible for a cash refund even if you initially got a FFC.

FFC can be used to book any ticket bookable on by united -- including partner tickets

Trying to drop a segment and get ETC is risky, likely not to have the desired outcome and not a go route to proceed.

The Online FFC rebooking tool is limited & flaky and many times you can get better rebookings via a phone agent -- many of which will not be offered online.
