Sorry, but BA was right. Under the current rules she is not allowed to enter the US, when flying from the UK.
The Coronavirus Pandemic has been going on now for more than 8 months. Trump's travel bans should be known as well.
Apparently, you and your mother did not conduct the research beforehand.
For non-US citizens it is very hard to enter the US at the moment.
