It's best to save them at booking. There's a link next to where you have to click a box saying you agree to the fare rules that will bring it up. I haven't been on AA.com in a while, but the link was very small at the bottom of the page right before you click "pay".
It may be possible to access the rules on a service like ExpertFlyer, if you know the date purchased and the full fare basis code (which I don't think is normally on the receipt, but you can ask AA). And by the way, there may not be any line/paragraph breaks in the fare rules; I formatted the example above to make it easier to read. So that complicates trying to understand the rules.

In your situation below, you were trying to change the routing. But the ticket rule says no change in stopovers--is the rule only referring to a stopover of more than 24 hours?
"Stopover" is a very specific term. For international, a stopover is more than 24 hours, yes; on most domestic it is 4 hours. So no problem to change the routing. In my case it was going from GIG-GRU-JFK to GIG-MIA-JFK, but all just regular layovers/connections, like 2 hours.

ETA - stopover time restrictions may be different in the COVID era due to schedule reductions; I believe DL allows 6 hours domestic now, not sure about AA.
