I know B6 left LGB paretly because if it did not use the slots awarded, it would have to surrender them. B6 had hoped to use LGB for international service to Mexico, Central America, and possibly South America. The NIMBY's of the LGB area voted against building a customs port at LGB. Without the international flights B6 could no longer make LGB work financially.
It's a pity, I really liked the JFK to LGB flights.
