To InterflugIL62: A bit offtopic and/or personal, but can I ask why you're going to Israel? I'm tempted to advise you to tone down your expectations.....
This is not who I would want to tell me how to enjoy myself.

My company represents a number of High Tech firms in Tel Aviv area, I'm there at least twice a year. I've lived in NYC, & I feel safer in Jerusalem-both parts. There is no need to be afraid while visiting there. Staying in the "Old City" is nice, but I would not recommend you stay on 196th street in Manhatten if you want to see the city. I would suggest you stay where transportation is easy and there are tons of places to get to by foot. American Colony is nice, but is neither of the above. The other comment is just out of line.
