Using public transport and walking the rest of the way may be possible but at the time you arrive buses are not frequent. ( and what if it raining?)
Not 100% convinced it's not doable.
Google Maps provides a pedestrian route. It's 2.4 km. Using Street View, there is a section of ~500m where you'd need to walk on the curb (that dangerous in MAD?). For the rest of the way, there appears to be a sidewalk. Overall, it seems feasible to me with no luggage except for a small backpack or laptop bag.
EDIT: Oh and the CP is def out. I called them up and they said their shuttle runs from 7am-10am and 7pm-10pm only. They estimated a taxi would be EUR 25.
