Room was great and had everything I needed. I don't know where the dark and dingy complaints come from because I didn't get that at all.

The only downside is that the only thing open was the marketplace, which had breakfast sandwiches, coffee, etc, but otherwise the sports bar was under construction and the other restaurant was closed. Understandable, but some people seemed annoyed when told they would have to go into town for dinner. That said, theres such great food in Monterey I was happy to eat outside the hotel both nights.
I totally agree that the suite we stayed in was great. I'd be curious to see how the rest of the rooms are but this suite was really great and super comfortable. Very spacious, modern. I agree tons of great restaurants around. It's definitely a fabulous use of the Category 4 free night awards if the weekend rate is high. Some people said they got super cheap rates so I guess if that's the case then it would just make sense to pay cash, especially with all the various promotions.
