I don't think so. The phrase "purchased for resale" is a term of art: it means products purchased wholesale (without sales tax) by retailers. It doesn't appear that a consumer buying a product and later deciding to sell it on eBay is covered by that clause in the terms.

There's nothing in the terms that excludes failed attempts to sell an item on Craigslist. It was in the OP's possession until it was stolen; obviously it's covered by the terms. Of course a claims agent may not agree but in my experience with AmEx they are not as picky as Chase is about trying to deny claims.
