I had a close personal friend who used to purchase tickets elsewhere than Singapore, tear off the first inbound segment (paper tix), and fedex the result to the UK. Would always have a higher price on the ticket than paid.

There are a few dodgy practices out there that can land you the same result, though I think they are illegal.
