I wouldn't pay a 100% premium for Gold at any time, and fortunately, you most certainly do not have to! If you really did see a 100% premium on like-for-like rooms, then somebody messed up loading rates at the time you booked.
I was going off memory from the lower rates which were probably a parking lot view so fair point. It was also the Covid BOGO rates.

My real point was on value. Having experienced CLL and Frontenac I felt Gold had a much higher value in Quebec City. This is always subjective. Valuing things like a bigger room (I don't really unless with extra rooms) might be very important to somebody else.
