Do the Challenge! I'm in the same situation. I did the Challenge and qualified in August, but will (would've) qualified on my own by November. The upside is that I'm collecting the bonus miles as a Platinum early.

You never know what might happen with frequent flyer programs or airlines. Enjoy the bonus miles and enhanced opportunities for upgrades while you can get them.
