I’ve tried doing a few searches using my companion pass. After I select the companion pass from the certificates page, it brings up the search page with Shop with Miles checked, and I’m unable to unselect it. Search results come up in SkyMiles. Although I can change the currency to cash, if I select flights and get to the checkout page it charges full price for both passengers.
