Not doubting your sources and knowledge, and this could vary by airline and the contracts between them, but my past visits and conversations at the HQ of a now-defunct SFO-based airline was that plating a ticket consisting entirely of another airline's fare and flights provided very little if any upside for the plating airline. The transaction only made sense if it was an end-on-end combination between the airline's own fare and that of another airline.
