We had a flight yesterday where our "odd man out" scenario reared its head again. An E175 and they had blocked all the aisle seats on the A side. I booked the 5 of us in a way that we had quite a few aisles empty next to us, and what I usually do is at the airport I tell them to consolidate us but leave one of us in the A seat with the aisle open. When I went to check in on Tuesday I saw they had moved us all and put me in a seat with someone not in our party next to me. I called in and there was no way to undo this, and they had sold/cleared a ton of additional seats by doing this. They were completely unresponsive to my requests. They said there is only one flight a day from our originating airport and they are not authorized to change airports via the reservations line, so we would have to show up at the airport and only there on day of departure could they do "something" for us. Not sure what that something would be other than to wait til the next day, which wasn't possible for us, and we had a ton of luggage including 2 bike bags so lugging that into the airport only to be sent packing wasn't something we wanted to do. So in the end I searched for options and found the last first class ticket on the plane that was not unreasonable in price. Then yesterday at the airport I asked for the station manager, explained the situation and she reviewed the reservation histories and made what I would call a very fair offer of compensation. I also got to enjoy the peace and quiet of sitting a couple of rows in front of my kids after having spend maybe a few too many days with them on vacation ;-)
