We did a vacation in the US two years ago where we drove down the 101 from SEA to SFO. I rented with Hertz and recall there was no one-way fee.

I'm wondering if this is just a Hertz thing or if other rental companies like Avis do the same thing. Furthermore, does this no one-way surcharge thing only apply to rentals picked up in WA or OR and dropped off in CA?

I did quite a bit of googling but couldn't find a clear answer..

If you guys find the question to abstract: I'm starting to plan a trip for next year and am considering flying into PDX and back out of LAS or maybe even SGU (as OW and ST are running a eco sale ex Germany ATM which includes all kinds of minor US airports). Will need a one-way rental between the two airports.
