Obviously, you could still obtain the card if you want/need it, you just might not be elgible for the sign-up bonus. However, that said, Citi has updated the terms and conditions for getting a sign-up bonus on many cards. For this card specifically, the requirements now read:

"American Airlines AAdvantageŽ bonus miles are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a CitiŽ / AAdvantageŽ Executiveaccount in the past 48 months."

This is a subtle but important tweak. It means you could get the SUB as long as you haven't received one on this specific card (not all Citi AA cards) within 48 months. So for example, if one has never had this card, even if they've had other Citi AA cards, they could still receive a SUB on this card if approved.

Regards
Interesting. Thanks. Given the hefty annual fee, this new term could be quite useful for families that might want to "rotate" this card among different primary card holders who could take turns earning the SUB. I guess the new applicant should apply before cancelling the previous cardholder's card, just in case the application is rejected and the family wants to make sure they maintain their lounge access.
