If you are an Australian citizen or a permanent resident you cannot leave Australia due to COVID-19 restrictions unless you have an exemption.

  • ordinarily resident in a country other than Australia

ETA: I'd be very surprised if the outbound travel restrictions are still around in January. I think they'll be lifted in the next month or so.
