Swisshotel Sydney

Hotel Overview Swissotel Sydney is located right in the heart of the city, surrounded by some of the largest department stores in the coutry. The hotel was built in 1999 but was recently refurbished with newer rooms and a more mordern interior. Location The hotel is very conveniently located and can be accessed with most public transport.By train: You can basically get off at any of the following stations and still get there on foot within 7 minutes: Wynard, Town Hall and St. James.By bus: Various buses stop around the area. It would be too long to list all of them.By lightrail: QVB station would be the nearest one. Room The room, located on one of the higher floors is 35 sqm large. The room looks classy at first glance, thanks to its carpets. Although the hotel has been renovated, I still find the bathroom to be slightly outdated in design but that didn’t really bother me too muchAlthough the room gave me a generally positive impression, the pillows were the part that let me down. The bed itself is comfortable but the pillows were too soft for me. It wasn’t able to support my head or neck at all when I was sleeping, so I had a hard time trying to fall asleep. It would be great if they offered us different types of pillows to choose from (i.e. soft or hard), like what Holiday Inn Express does. The room has basically all the amenities you’ll need. From bottled water, showering needs, grooming needs, hairdryer, slippers, vanity kit, ironing and laundry, as well as a minibar. The minibar features quite a wide variety of snacks and beverages. You’ll find the basic tea and coffee, but also a bottle of wine and some soft drinks. All of the food items come at a price, except the coffee capsules. You’ll find the price list just in the cabinet. In front of the bed is a work area with a desk, a lamp and quite a few charging ports. It also sits in front of the window so you can leave the curtains open and let some natural light come in. I’ve spent an entire afternoon completing some work and I felt comfortable sitting there. It does give you some space to stretch out. Dining Complimentary breakfast is included in the fare and is served in the restaurant just next to the main lobby at level 8. Due to some COVID-safe measure that has been put in place, like many other hotels, buffet service has been temporarily terminated and instead guests are allowed to pick any 2 meals from the breakfast menu.Despite the generosity, I was alone and I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish everything if I did end up ordering both. So, I only went for the pastry and cereal, together with a cup of coffee and apple juice. All of the food items were plated nicely together with a selection of spreads placed separately. The manager was also nice enough to check in on me occassionally to make sure everything was alright (not too often that would cause an awkard scene). Overall This hotel has a very solid product. It has an averagely priced nightly rate given the service and product. What’s good:Proximity to the city centre and walking distance to most attractions nearbyConvenient public transport accessExcellent staff and serviceWhat’s not: Relatively dated bathroom in this particular room type
