Case 1: Stay with Delta Kingston at end of June with a Getaway package. The getaway package included parking but when I was checking out the folio added parking costs. I called in and the front desk told me they would rectify the situation. When I was checking out their AMEX payment system was having issues and I could not pay with my Marriott Bonvoy AMEX. Front desk said they would charge me later when the AMEX system is up. When the system was up, instead of charging the lower amount without added parking, they charged me twice, first with parking added and the second with parking removed. I only noticed this because I looked into my AMEX app and saw two different charges. I called in, front desk said they would refund me the charge with parking added to my VISA (not AMEX even though they charged from my AMEX). This was roughly a month ago and to this day I have not received any refunds on either card.
Case 2: Stay at Fairfield Edmonton airport on points. When I was checking out the front desk agent even mentioned that it was a points booking. I checked my AMEX app a few days later and noticed a charge of $48.50 from this hotel. Folio I was sent had charge of $0 as it should for points booking. Had to call in and the front desk said they would refund me.This is not one of those pending charges/authorization they usually do when you first check in.
In both cases without checking my credit card statement I would have been overcharged.
Why does the hotel even know your Visa card number or be aware that you have a Visa card if you paid with AmEx?
