Still?? It was months ago I heard they were expecting the FADEC update to be applied "very soon".
They're definitely not accounting for the slower speed in the block times. Going to be 2 more leave early, arrive late for me today.
As I understood it, the update was to reprogram FADEC so that it would avoid power settings that trigger the destructive acoustic resonance believed to be occurring at higher altitudes. It doesn't solve the underlying problem. It just allows pilots to use autothrottle instead of having to set power manually; FADEC would provide the protection. Cruising at a higher altitude is going to improve fuel economy but probably won't get you better speed. Higher altitude may result in lower speed.
