Recently I was able to obtain a parallel import grey-market Rimowa Original Cabin Twist with Red Leather Accents for 60% off, and free shipping. It was made in the Koln factory in Germany, just how I like it. Regarding quality, it has decisively increased. In the past the Cabin model weighed 4.8 kg, and now it weighs 4.3 kg, as a result of an increase in magnesium content for the alloy, a recent update that is much appreciated. However the MSRP asking price is extortionate and I am surprised they can sell a single one with such delusions. I opened up the lining with the zipper, and the wheels are screwed in tightly into the frame, as the rivets disappeared for the wheels; I thought the wheels were a "glue-job". Apparently not, and they roll as smooth as ever. The cleaner lines at least for this model, and the grooves ending half an inch before the corners, are a sleek design choice that eliminates places where dirt can build up in crevices, common with the previous generations and a design flaw that has been thankfully eliminated. LVMH has done a poor job in terms of sales service and warranty/repair policies, one of the worst things to happen after their takeover. But the quality increase cannot be denied; the obsession with high prices is a policy that needs to die, 60-80% off is a proper, correct MSRP for the current generation Rimowas, especially with inferior repair and warranty policies.
