The local HR has closed off the top floors of the property, where the suites are located, as a cost saving measure. They have a greatly reduced housekeeping staff and they are only opening rooms and floors when there sufficient demand to justify the costs of staff to clean them. The cost is the reason upgrades are not available.
Well, I'll buy that. Closing a bulk section of rooms during a pandemic as a cost cutting measure obviously is one thing. But cutting off suite availability completely is still a little different than denying an upgrade when the room is otherwise available.
Here's an example: GH Kauai Standard Room $500/nt. GH Kauai Deluxe Suite ~$2500/nt.
Is there even a remote possibility that "cost of cleaning" difference is 2 grand/nt. No.
Any room, any property, any country in the world I would happily pay "cost of cleaning" PLUS another 2-400 premium to move from a 500sqft King Room to a 4000sqft Villa with a pool, or a 2500sqft Presidential Suite with multiple balconies, or a two story Penthouse equipped with a telescope, etc.
I mean, they even send scuba divers to clean some rooms, and even then Cost of Cleaning is still an irrelevant portion of the cost.
