That's not how I read it.
I believe they’re just encouraging it to be contactless, but my understanding is that even with the app you’d still have to check in with the front desk to show you’re physically there. Every time I’ve done the Online Check In Invitation once it’s processed it says stop by the front desk to get your room keys.
