Stayed at the hotel for a night in August 2020 (i.e. COVID restrictions time). The hotel is in a convenient location close to Syntagma Square/Plaka. As a Titanium member, I was given an upgraded room (from the cheapest) to one that had a nice balcony and clear view of an old church on the opposite side of the road. This did mean traffic noise on the balcony, but when the windows were closed there was no noise to disturb our sleep (double or triple glazing?). We were awoken at 8am by the church bells calling out a service, which was pleasant, but may not be to everyone’s taste!
The rooms were compact, modern, and a little quirky (having a chair that doubled as a hanger), but nice enough – good to sleep in and shower, but that’s about all you'd be doing. The corridors were dark, but delightfully air conditioned. There were minimal COVID impacts except the single hotel lift was restricted to one person (not enforced, so I think it really meant one group), but the stairs were fine to get downstairs with. If the hotel was busier this could become an issue. There was some mention of booking the gym/spa if you wanted to use them due to COVID.
There was no breakfast included in our rate, like all booked through Marriott.com, and the hotel didn’t offer it as a Titanium welcome (i.e. following the rules), hence our benefits from being in the hotel were fairly limited, though the hotel did give us a 2pm check-out (for our later flight) with no objections. We didn’t use the restaurants/bar, staff seemed friendly at reception
Overall, would likely go back should we return to Athens – the week before we’d stayed at the Hotel Grande Bretagne (for twice the price) and preferred this one as being more our style and better value, but with a similar location.
