Depends on the chain. In the US, most mid-price chains offer free wifi (Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, etc.).

With wifi, there is no need to use dialup. Just open the browser. Some properties may ask for login ID (which you can get from the front desk). You can then go to your homepage or straight to FlyerTalk.
