The meaning is you cannot have your cake sitting on the plate looking nice and and the same time eat it. either its on your plate of stomach, it cant be both. Not so dumb. Some people like to look at a nicely decorate cake . But i think you are looking at this too deeply.

How about, You cant have your money and spend it ?
