Therefore my 7 night Cat4 certificate cannot be used.

I thought that a workaround for this was for Marriott to cancel the certificate, take the points and add a courtesy adjustment to reissue a certificate 1 category higher to cover the specific redemption. Or can't the hotel take my Cat4 certificate at 150k points and take 5k points from my account to get the 155k points needed for 7 nights

Am I missing something?
This just doesn't feel right.
If you are pertaining to the 7 night Category 4 hotel portion of a travel package, peak & off peak pricing is irrelevant. There only needs to be award space for 7 nights at the property you wish to book and the hotel category needs to match your certificate.

You can call Marriott to book and attach your certificate. In my case, I just booked a 7 night stay at a Category 5 property as a points advance booking. Many months later, I called to attach my Category 5 7 night certificate to the reservation. While the total points required for a 7 night points award flucuated, I wasn't concerned because I wasn't going to use points for the booking. When I was sure that my plans were going ahead, I called to attach the travel certificate that is Category based.
