Had to rent a car today to run some errands around DC. I ended up needing the car for less time than I thought so I returned it about 3 hours early.
The rental car center looked to be fairly busy (just one person working) and there were 3 other people in front of me waiting around to have their car checked in. All of them just walked away eventually. I walked over to the Avis rep and he said "oh just leave the keys in the car and I'll email the receipt". I asked him if he wanted the receipt for gas because I drove less than 75 miles and he said no. This was all around 4:15pm.
I noticed I never got a receipt for the rental around 6:30pm and when I looked at the app it still says that I have the car. I called Avis directly (not DCA) and he asked what time I returned the car and told me not to worry and I should get a receipt now within 2 hours.
I still haven't gotten the receipt yet, and its almost 5 hours since I dropped it off. Should I be concerned? I need to go to the DCA area tomorrow AM anyways so I might just go to the counter then.
Edit: I just called Avis again and he said "Well it was due to be returned so give it a couple of more hours but you'll probably have to go to the desk at DCA and straighten everything out with them tomorrow." What if I had flown out? I know I should have gotten a paper receipt and waited but I guess the tone/nonchalant attitude is somewhat irritating.
