I didn't realize that applying for 2 CCs on the same day can backfire. Applied for a Chase Amazon Prime and a Capital-1 Walmart. Both offer 5% back.
Chase, no issue. Cap-1 denied. Reason: to many hard inquires (they use Experian). Logged into Experian and I see a hard inquiry from JPMC and CAPONE and one more from early 2019 (a car loan that I did not use).
That is it. BTW been with the C-1 Bank since they bought out Chevy Chase Bank year ago.
Spoke to several C-1 Credit Card folks ending up a Supervisor "Mark".
They have no override authority and I have to wait until March 2021 for the oldest hard inquiry to "drop off".
Tried to get the car loan bank to remove the inquiry - nope.
So even with a Cap-1 "Creditwise" and experian scores above 800 and $0 loans it's all irrelevant.

Still looking for a %5 back on grocery purchases.
