How can I cancel my booking and get my Avios recreditted to my account?

Yes - you can cancel, but you need to phone at the moment.
It's been suggested that you don't cancel until about 48 hours before your flight, as it may be cancelled by BA anyway. In that case, you wouldn't get charged the cancellation fee.
If you want the Avios back now - just keep trying on the phone.
