I think sooner or later Marriott will change its way to assign an elite status. Something like what United did with its Mileage program. Stop counting miles and instead see how much money people spend flying. Not sure if it’s a good idea for us as customers, though.
It's a lot harder to design such a program when average room rates vary so much across the world.
